These are clips from an embarrassingly amateurish mock call-in show my friend and future MATT RADIO co-host Rob Rutter and I created when we were 12 years old.   The premise of "LaughLine" was a response to the first wave of call-in self-help radio programs that was already sweeping the nation in 1985.  In our skewed version, I played a cocky clinical psychologist who called random people out of the phone book live on the air to ask if they had problems they might wish to share.  Rob incorporated a menagerie of bizarre voices to play the various "clients."  Occasionally, Rob would play a psychiatric assistant and I would take the role of the "victim."  Either way, the skits were only funny about 20% of the time but were thoroughly retarded 97% of the time.  I've deemed about 3% of the total surviving material worthy of sharing with you here.

From our first episode on April 5, 1985: paging Mr. VanVonderVander etc. calling Alfred Januzek call to Robert Itt calling for T. Genus You can stay on hold till next Friday night. I would never whore myself as a corporate shill now, but apparently the concept didn't bother me when I was in middle school. We have weird technicians.

Rob and I taped about two dozen half-hour episodes of "LaughLine" between April 1985 and April 1986.  Depending on feedback, I may keep digging in the audio vault and upload more clips to this page.  Demand more counseling from Dr. Bilz and Audel Aguado by emailing the "LaughLine" studio: matt@mattradio.com.
