From Venice to Villach

One nation gives way to another as we transition from Italy to Austria.

Hotel Arcadia, anyone?

Villach is the second largest
city of Carinthia.

Villach is a railway gateway
to most parts of Austria as
well as the Italian border.

The city has roots back
to Roman times, when
it was called Santicum.

Villach was heavily bombed during World War II, targeted because it
was a major traffic hub even then.

One of Villach's lakes boasts the cleanest water-- suitable for drinking as it is--- in Europe.

It's not out of focus,
it's artsy, dammit.

Here's the part where I take pics of the hotel room I stayed in.

These shots will be used in the hotel reviews on my dedicated travel blogs... coming soon.

The room and bathroom at the Hotel Mosser were fine...

...except that everything was saturated with the smell of cigarette smoke.

Luckily we were armed with
several bottles of Febreze.  But it
barely made a dent in the stench.
