Would you believe a funny thing hap--- nah, never mind.

The Palatine housed the
very first settlements in Rome.

Stadium of Domitian
on the Palatine Hill

Private hunts, games and
fights were held for Emperor
Domitian in this stadium

Columns ran the entire
length of this stadium.

There at the bottom left
is Domitian's private box.

New archaeological discoveries are made at the Palatine
with relative frequency.

In early fall 2009, for example,
a huge revolving platform was
discovered underneath the hill.

The structure is thought to
have been a feature of
Emperor Nero's dining room.

the temple of Romulus,
in the Roman Forum

Built by Emperor Maxentius (reigned AD 306-312)...

...the building was dedicated to
his son Romulus, who died
at age four in AD 309.

It's the best-preserved
pagan temple in Rome.
