Final Day in Paris

Just enough time left to see La Conciergerie, the prison of Marie Antoinette.

(Click to view larger version of any of the photos below.)

Marie was a captive here in 1793, prior to her execution in October.

Sentries often played cards
while on watch in her cell...

...and could see Marie only
when looking over a partition.

Marie's actual cell was converted into a chapel dedicated
to her memory.

Hundreds of prisoners during
the French Revolution were
executed on the guillotines
at La Conciergerie.

The Revolutional Tribunal held court in this great vaulted hall.

Only a relatively small part of the building is open to public access — much of it is today still used
for the Paris law courts.

Our tortellini dinners: Dana's (top)stuffed with beef, Matt's with chicken.

At the hotel, the toilet is in a tiny room all to itself. Qu'une odeur!
