Discovering London On Foot

It's a full day's wandering: the Mall, St. James' Park, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, the West End, the River Thames, the City of Westminster, and the Prince of Wales Pub.

on Buckingham Gate

The Royal Marching Band passes the Queen Victoria Memorial...

...and proceeds up the Mall.

This is part of the Changing
of the Guard ceremony.

The ceremony happens daily
in the summer and every
other day in the winter.

The guards being replaced
march from Buckingham Palace
to St. James' Palace.

Beyond the other end of the lake is Buckingham Palace to the west.

Is this fellow the fattest
pigeon in London?

This guard seems ready
to defend Dana's honour.

Two mounted Household Cavalry troopers are posted daily.

You know it, of course,
as Big Ben.

That nickname actually refers
to the largest bell in the tower,
not the tower itself.

The clock has been operating since 1859.
