This massive dance hit originated in the clubs.

Possibly the most eagerly awaited single release of Kylie's career, "Spinning Around" achieved gold status in Australia via pre-orders before it was even released!  The first single from her Light Years album, "Spinning Around" caused a sensation by propelling Kylie back to the top of the charts, debuting at No.1 in both the U.K. and Australia.

"Spinning Around" became Kylie’s first number one in Australia since "Confide In Me" and her first number one in the UK since "Tears on My Pillow" ten years earlier.  "Spinning Around" also gave Kylie the honour of being one of two artists (the other being Madonna) to have a # 1 single in the eighties, nineties and noughties.  "Spinning Around" won Kylie "Best Pop Release" at the prestigious ARIA Awards in Australia.

After being dropped by her last record label, Kylie, the little stick of dynamite, has gotten herself a great new deal, reviewed her music career, and decided to go back to her pop roots.  Her new dance single "Spinning Around" shows her going back to basics.  "I have always been better at pop and it works the best," she says.  "But it's nerve-racking.  I go from excitement to terror and everything in between!  I should be used to this by now, but it's a big mental shift going back to this kind of music again. It's what I'd call 'grown-up pop'- sleek and fun, with lots of references to performers like Donna Summer and Kraftwerk.

"A number one single again would be fantastic, "she adds, just prior to "Spinning Around" becoming exactly that.  She's had dozens of other hit singles, but this one will be different.  This time around Kylie is going to go with the flow.  "I wouldn't drive myself crazy in a bid to repeat my pass successes," she reveals.  That said, at the moment she's seriously focused on her work and flits constantly between Sydney and Los Angeles, where she's been recording the album Light Years, and London, where she has a home in Chelsea which she shares with her brother Brendan, a cameraman.

Despite spending the earlier part of the year in Sydney, Kylie is largely based in London.  While she adores traveling, she admits it does have its downsides.  For one thing, it makes it hard to hold down a serious relationship, and she also spends a lot of time on her own.  On the upside, the time alone allowed Kylie to work out exactly what she wants in a relationship.     "I want a profound, incredible relationship with lots of romance," she says, grinning.  While not actively searching, she knows the requirements exactly.  "I suppose I'm looking for a guy with humour and charisma, and that is quite rare.  I'd like him to be artistic, too," she muses.  But finding that elusive knight in shining armour has proved tricky for Kylie and she acknowledges she finds it difficult to meet the right person.  "I'd like to be swept off my feet," she declares.  "I want a relationship that defies any description!"

Arguably Kylie’s most anticipated album yet, Light Years was released in September 2000 to massive critical and commercial success, spearheaded by the No.1 hits "Spinning Around" and "On A Night Like This."  Unashamedly pop, Light Years featured collaborations with Robbie Williams, Guy Chambers, Johnny Douglas, Steve Anderson, and Richard Stannard and was Kylie’s first release on the Parlophone label.

Light Years debuted at number two on both the UK and Australian album charts and, in its third week of release, became Kylie's first Australian No.1 album.  Fueled by the success of follow-up singles "Kids" and "Please Stay" and a special tour edition of the album,  Light Years achieved platinum sales in the UK and quadruple-platinum sales in Australia.
